01 GOLD: SOMEONE MUST KNOW THIS????

If the 2001 UD Player Inks are seeded at 1:3,000 packs, what is the ratio for the Gold Player Inks from the same set? I don't know if UD ever stated the odds on pulling a Gold Ink, so has anyone ever seen anything or done the math and have a ballpark figure? 1:150,000?

Yeah, that's a good question, and it would also give us a rough idea of how many cases were produced of 2001 UD and 2001 UD Rack Golf. I'm sure it's a scary figure to estimate how many Tiger #1 rookies exist, but it would also tell us how many of each Player Ink exist, as well as Tour Threads...

Exactly! If we knew this, we could make fairly accurate estimation on the odds of the other goodies in the set as well. If someone knew the number of cases produced, I can do the math from there. If our brain trust can't figure it out, maybe UD could be of help?

OK, I'll take a shot at this, with 2 caveats ---
1) I'm no math whiz, so there might be errors
2) I don't have any inside info from upperdeck, so the numbers are purely speculative

To start off with, we have to determine the number of Players Ink cards produced, basically the print run for each of the 25 cards listed. I have no idea of this number, but we have to start somewhere, for simplicity's sake, I'm going to assume the print run is 1000 for each Players Ink card (may not be that high). Since there are 25 of them, then there are 25000 Players ink cards out there, and with a ratio of 1:3000, then there must have been 75,000,000 packs produced.

With each case containing 288 packs, that's around 266,017 cases ?

If the print run for each Players Ink is only 500, then the final numbers would be 1/2 ---- 133K cases ?

at print run 500 for the regular players ink, the Players Ink GOLD would be 1:60000 packs.
at print run 1000 for the regular players ink, the players ink GOLD would be 1:120000 packs.

Any thoughts from others ?

Guru Tony broke it down. Allow me to share:

Odds of pulling a 01 UD Players Ink Gold (P.I.G) is roughly 1 in 100 cases. To be more specific, there are 288 packs per case so that would mean the approximate odds of pulling a P.I.G would be roughly 1:28,800 packs. If you want to take it a step further there are 5 cards per pack, so the odds of pulling a P.I.G is 1:144,000 cards!

That's sounds about right to me. However, that guesstimation is based on the therory of 1 in 100 cases. Might we need the total number of cases produced to make it even more accurate? Not sure where Tony got that magic number/ratio, but he has his ways so I'll take his word for it Thanks Tony.

Anyone get a different number???

That's AWESOME to know. No wonder I haven't pulled anything other than Tour Threads (only busted a dozen or so cases).
I think the math on the P.I.G's also should tell us Golf Gallery Auto and Tour Gear odds are 1:50 cases and I think I remember hearing Player's Ink cards are ~1:10 cases.
Here's some math fun:
The last case of 01 Regular sold on eBay went for $130 shipped
24 x 100 x $130 = $312,000 for a complete P.I.G set...that's IF you pull a different P.I.G every 100 cases!!!
2,400 x 288 = 691,200 packs
2,400 x 2hrs per case = 4,800 hours; 4,800/24 = 200 DAYS without stopping to bust the cases...talk about a marathon
If I win the lottery, I think I might just try and buy 2,400 cases of 01 UD and see how much fun I can have It would at least give me something to do since I'd retire.

So if my math is correct, and we assume each Ink Gold is 1:100 cases, that means that there are roughly 250 of each players ink regular..Very interesting stuff, thanks to all for your help
